Meet Matt Andersen: Building the Future of Cloud Data Engineering at Main Street
Matt’s IT journey began in the U.S. Navy, where he gained his first hands-on technical experience and a deep respect for precision and reliability. Over the years, he earned multiple database certifications and built a diverse portfolio of expertise spanning MSSQL, MongoDB, MySQL, AWS, Atlas, and more.
He first crossed paths with fellow Main Street engineer Adam Casillas more than a decade ago while working at another firm. When Adam began building a new NoSQL-focused team at Main Street, he knew Matt’s combination of technical knowledge, client focus, and innovative problem-solving would be a perfect fit. Matt joined the team in October 2024.
Today, Matt serves as the primary Cloud Engineer and NoSQL/SQL DBA for multiple clients. His role begins with thorough environment assessments, identifying performance bottlenecks, and delivering tailored solutions that improve efficiency, scalability, and cost savings.
Recently, Matt has been leading a database partitioning project for a client, building a proof of concept to demonstrate significant performance gains before implementing it in production. This kind of forward-thinking, hands-on approach is why clients trust him with high-impact initiatives.
Big Client Wins
One of Matt’s proudest achievements at Main Street happened early in his tenure. During a client performance evaluation, he identified underperforming storage settings that were costing the company thousands each month. His adjustments now save the client $18,000 per month, a direct and measurable result of his expertise.
Beyond individual accomplishments, Matt says he’s enjoying watching the Cloud Data Engineering team grow and is excited for the future of Main Street’s cloud capabilities.
A Life of Strength and Passion Beyond the Screen
Outside of work, Matt is a competitive strongman, earning the title of Oklahoma’s Strongest Man in his division in 2023 and holding a state record for the yoke walk. When he’s not training, Matt enjoys fishing, target shooting, and caring for his menagerie of around 40 animals, mostly snakes and spiders.
For Matt, joining Main Street isn’t just about professional growth; it’s about being part of a forward-thinking team.
“I’m glad to be on Adam’s team and I’m excited to see how we continue to grow in the Cloud space,” he says. “The future here looks bright.”
Matt’s certifications include Microsoft SQL Server and MongoDB DBA (he was among the first 500 people in the world to earn the MongoDB DBA certification!). He also holds a degree in computer programming, enabling him to bridge the gap between application development and database engineering.
