Employee Spotlight: Rick Monnin

With a career spanning nearly four decades, Rick Monnin brings a deep well of expertise, consistency, and leadership to Main Street Technical Services. Based in Toledo, Ohio, Rick currently serves as Oracle DBA Team Lead, guiding complex migrations, mentoring teammates, and setting the gold standard in Oracle database management.

Rick's journey began in the mid-1980s as a CPA and auditor at Ernst & Whinney (Now EY), one of the Big 8 accounting firms. His technical aptitude and love for systems quickly pushed him toward accounting systems, and by the late 1990s, he had fully transitioned into Oracle consulting. For 25 years, Rick sharpened his Oracle DBA and Oracle EBS skills at Warnock, Tanner and Associates, where he worked on enterprise systems that supported critical business functions across industries.

In November 2022, Rick joined Main Street Technical Services. His role has since evolved to include Oracle DBA services, Oracle EBS consulting, and team leadership, making him a key player in our Oracle practice and one of the most trusted technical resources on our team.

Leading Complex Projects, Delivering Measurable Results

Rick Monnin thrives on big challenges. A recent example is his leadership in successfully migrating 35 Oracle databases for a client. This large-scale project involved transitioning production workloads from Oracle ODA X7s to X10s using Oracle RAC and Data Guard. It wrapped in May 2025, representing months of preparation and precision execution.

He's also proud of his work at Atmos Energy, where he led the upgrade and migration of Oracle EBS 11.5, and at the City of Houston, where he coordinated the installation of Oracle RAC One Node and the migration of 22 critical databases. Rick credits much of that project's success to team collaboration, especially the efforts of his teammates.

"Without the DBA team and their hard work, this project would not have been successful," Rick shared.

His gratitude and humility reflect his servant leadership mindset, a philosophy he's embraced and continues to develop through reading and mentorship.

Rick Monnin: A Career Powered by Passion

Rick's core strengths include Oracle RDBMS (from version 7.3.2 to 19c), Oracle EBS (11.5 to 12.2), and system administration across Unix, Linux, and Windows platforms. But what sets him apart is his leadership, anchored in deep technical knowledge and a heart for service.

"I want to continue becoming a better DBA and servant leader of my Oracle DBA Team," he says. "Main Street has a wonderful staff, and I’m proud to work with them. I hope to expand our team and grow our Oracle practice."

Star Wars, Baseball, and Building Beyond the Keyboard

Outside of work, Rick is an avid Star Wars fan and builder of Star Wars LEGO sets (34 and counting!). His favorite? The UCS X-Wing Starfighter! He also follows the Toledo Mud Hens religiously and enjoys blending his love of baseball and sci-fi with time spent working on computers, his profession, and passion.
